Online Poker Players Unite!

Conservative, n: A statesman who is enamored of existing evils, as distinguished from the Liberal who wishes to replace them with others. – Ambrose Bierce

Despite this statement on p. 38 of the 2004 Republican Platform (the 2008 Platform is not approved yet):

“As Republicans, we trust people to make their own decisions about how to spend, save, and invest their own money. We want individuals to own and control their income.”

The hypocrites still do not want to let me spend my own income playing online as demonstrated by their history of voting to impede and/or eliminate online gaming.

In fact, I wholeheartedly agree with Mean Gene’s thinking that the current state of political affairs in our beloved America is one of reducing our freedoms and liberties rather than protecting the existing ones or expanding them.

As a citizen that votes at every opportunity, I would like to encourage all my readers to do the same. Please go and vote for the folks you support and/or vote against those you disagree with. I believe voter apathy has been the biggest factor in ushering in the current state of affairs.

Being a US Senator or US Representative is a difficult job. One has to ponder weighty matters and be away from one’s family and home for extended periods of time. The last eight years have been a troubling period exacerbated by our military adventure in the Middle East. These fine folks deserve a nice long break. Let’s help them out by electing others to replace them in November. After all, it will be much easier for them to get involved in their communities and enjoy a rich family life if they are at home rather than in Washington. Who knows, maybe if they had a little more time on their hands, they might try and enjoy a bit of online poker, too.

What other freedoms and liberties do you want that you are currently, not enjoying?

Online poker, is that it? You do know that online poker makes very nice "money pies" every night. "Money Pies" that politicians, on both sides, want to stick their fingers in and enjoy (and control, sort of like the casino industry?).

Think about it, some retard can win the 32k, an FTOPS for 800k, or give some unknown 10k (or whatever the amount is) to wear a patch and do some site pimping during the WSOP.

The politicians want a slice of that "money pie." They will get their piece by accepting campaign donations to repeal the law. That way they get to legalize it and then levy TAXES on it, and then use that to tell their constituents about the hard work they did to reap those tax dollars. And of course, the sites have a "maintenance fee" that shows up like clock work when it is re-election time.

Seriously, all sarcasm aside, what other freedoms and liberties and privileges do you want?

I seek greater liberty for all citizens, not just myself. Vices are not necessarily crimes and I think our gov't should cease interfering in our personal lives and stop trying to impose someone else's moral values on us. If I want to indulge in personal vices (such as, but not limited to) gambling, then I should not be impeded from doing so with my own time and money.

Lucypher,

Very nice site. I have been reading through several of your posts today. Also, I will add your site to my recommendations this afternoon. As for this post you think the government would have bigger problems, rather then attack online poker?

It makes me furious. If you want to regulate and tax online gambling I wouldn't have a problem with that. But the unjustified votes to ban online poker are absolutely ridiculous.

U.S online pokers are lucky that Obama was elected. I think he is more reasonable on the issue. I'm sure he also understands that poker is a game of skill, I think he plays himself.
